Gold Coast Roll UniSC Women

The UniSC Rip City women fell to the Roller’s of Gold Coast last Saturday night, 72-60. Import point guard Ariana Moorer was the big difference between the two sides, scoring 24 points, grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists on 72% from the floor.

Moorer proved to be too much for Rip City’s guards while teammate Catherine Reese put on an impressive performance of 20 points and 10 rebounds, commanding respect in the paint.

Carlie Smith and N’dea Flye led the way for Rip with 16 points a piece and Steph Bairstow finishing with 14 points.

A night where there were many missed opportunities around the basket and stops on the defensive end saw the Rip women fall short.

This weekend will be filled with excitement as our NBL1 teams will play not once, but twice. On Saturday, the women will face off against the Wizards of Northside who come in with an 11-0 record.

Courtney Woods leads the way for the Wizards, scoring 25 points per game. Nadeen Payne averages 17 while import forward AJ Johnson averages 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Lil Dart rounds out the scoring punch with 13 points per game.

Our Rip women will have to be locked in on the defensive end of the floor and share the ball like the Wizards do, making sure everyone on the floor is a threat.

You can catch Saturday’s game at 5:30pm at UniSC Stadium or on the NBL1 live stream. On Sunday, the Rip Women will travel to Carina to face off against the Spartans.

The Spartans will come into the game with an 8-5 record on the year, showing a strong defensive presence.

Madelyn Allen leads the scoring punch for the Spartans with 23 points per game and Erin Gustavsson averages 20 points per game.

In the first match up against the Spartans, Rip was hurt by Gustavsson and will look to slow down her output this time around.

Krystal Leger Walker averages 12 points per game and Jessica McDowell-White averages 11 points per game on the year.

It will be important for the women to sure up their defense and push the ball against a less experienced Spartans team. You can catch their game at 1:00pm at Carina or on the NBL1 livestream.
