UniSC Rip City women fall to a talented Northside Wizards
The UniSC Rip City women fell to a talented Northside Wizards team in Round 5 78-61. WNBL star Courtney Woods hurt the women as she hit her averages with a strong performance of 22 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.
AJ Johnson was also big, hurting Rip City in the paint with 22 points, 8 points better than her scoring averages on the year.
Nadeen Payne contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds, as well.
Carlie Smith provided 23 points and 10 rebounds while N’dea Flye gave a great all around effort with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals.
Meagan Mullings contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The women will face off against the Logan women this weekend, which are having a slow start to their season compared to years previous with a 3-3 record.
Mikhaela Cann is leading the way with 19.5 points per game and 5 assists.
Ashley Taia is contributing 17 points, as well. WNBL star Mikaela Ruef has only appeared in one game this season with an average of 13 points and 14 rebounds.
The UniSC Rip women will have an excellent opportunity to get back into the win column this week.
A focus on the defensive end will be imperative in getting a win.
Taking away Mikhaela Cann’s production will be the most important task, while limiting Taia’s contribution will be a close second.
The Rip Women will need to sure up their interior play and dominate the points in the paint with strong drives to the basket and scores around the rim.
Chevannah Paalvast has been a stalwart in this league for years and it will be important to keep her to her season averages and not let her get going inside.
