UniSC Rip City women fall to the Rockhampton Cyclones

The UniSC Rip City women fell to the Rockhampton Cyclones last week at UniSC stadium 76-58.

The Cyclones front court proved to be the overwhelming factor against the Rip women with Samantha Bowman leading the way with an incredible performance of 29 points and 21 rebounds.

Lara McSpadden was also excellent with a 17 point and 12 rebound performance.

Carlie Smith continued her strong 2023 campaign with 22 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 4/6 from beyond the 3 point line. N’dea Flye and Maddie Campbell also had solid outings with 11 point performances each on the evening.

The women look forward to a Saturday matchup with the Northside Wizards who come in to the matchup with a perfect 5-0 record on the season.

With plenty of fire power across the board, the Wizard women are led by WNBL point guard Tiana Mangakahia, who comes in averaging 27 points per game.

WNBL backcourt teammate Courtney Woods also comes in averaging 21 points per game while Nadeen Payne is averaging 18, Lil Dart averages 14 points and Amanda Johnson is averaging a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The women will have to look to slow down the heavy firepower of the Wizards throughout the course of the game in order to win this one.

Individual matchups will be key as each of the Wizards starters can go for big nights and players off the bench have the capability of putting up points, as well. Keeping the ball in front and limiting mistakes both on the glass and the offensive end of the floor are the keys for this one.

You can catch the women play down at Northside or on the NBL1 live stream this Saturday at 5pm!
